Three fields, one sensibility.

In all three, the work is to make clarity and understanding possible where they do not arise on their own: in institutions, between people, within ourselves. What I bring is the same in each: listening before explaining. Staying steady and attentive when things get tense. A feel for what does not show itself at first.

Conflict & Understanding

Conflict is part of living and working together, and it is often what sets change in motion. Most of the time, the people involved work it out themselves. It becomes difficult when a conflict gets stuck, goes unrecognized, or begins to escalate. Then it takes someone from outside.

That does not always mean formal mediation. A mediator’s sensibility and the craft of reaching understanding help everywhere from a first misunderstanding to an entrenched dispute.

I work the way a mediator works, with individuals, teams, and organizations. Holding emotions without smoothing them over too soon. Staying open to the outcome without imposing one. Guiding the process rather than deciding it.

Themes Team conflicts and role clarity · tensions between staff and leadership · reorganization and change · cross-cultural collaboration · conflicts in newsrooms, government agencies, associations, and foundations · delicate dialogues and negotiations
Formats One-on-one advising · two-party and group mediation · facilitation · workshops and seminars

Institutional Responsibility

Institutions carry responsibility for people: for their own, and for those their mission serves. Power is part of this. It is unevenly distributed, and without it, responsibility could not be carried. The harm rarely lies in power itself but in an unexamined relationship to it.

I worked in institutional monitoring for many years and know from the inside what accountability and harm prevention mean in practice. Today I work with government agencies, companies, and NGOs on that relationship.

Themes Organizational responsibility and accountability · harm prevention and risk reduction · integrity and the exercise of power · what can be said and what cannot
Formats Advising · process consultation · workshops and seminars

Awareness & Presence

Much is decided not at the level of argument but beneath it, in how we are present. How do we stay present and clear when things get difficult, when much is at stake, when we are in transition? This is the question I work on, one-on-one and in small groups.

Themes Presence in decisions and under pressure · transitions · leadership and self-leadership · attention amid distraction
Formats One-on-one guidance · continuing work in a small group · workshops and seminars

The fields organize my work, not what you bring.

Often a situation touches several at once. A first conversation begins where you are. Before accepting an engagement, I check for possible conflicts of role or interest.
